How do I choose the right server for my needs?
Prominic has years of expertise sizing servers for our customers based on the technologies they need to run and the expect load on the server. Leverage our knowledge and ask our Sales team for help. We'll give you our best recommendations and will have engineers available to answer any technical questions you might have.
Can I get a low-end server with just a single hard drive to keep my costs down?
Our packages are very competitive, but we don't offer servers without multiple, hot-swappable drives in a RAID array. Hard drives are one of the few moving parts in your server and are therefore most likely to fail. Without at least a mirrored hard drive, your server would crash immediately if your drive failed. By maintaining RAID arrays in all of our servers, we ensure they stay online, even in the event of a single hard drive failure.
If my package does not include server monitoring, should I add it?
Only our entry level development-grade servers leave out monitoring in order to keep their costs down, but we always recommend you choose a plan with server monitoring, or add it to your package if it is not included. Our server monitoring service alerts Prominic support engineers of problems with your server, so we can immediately take action to remedy the cause.
When should I add a dedicated firewall?
You should consider adding a dedicated firewall if you:
- Have a multi-server environment
- Want to secure your connection to the server with a VPN
- Need more than 4 ports open for the services and applications running on the server
- Require increased security and isolation from other customers behind a shared firewall
